Qualcomm Brings Oracle Java ME Embedded 3.2 Support to its QSC6270-Turbo Chipset

Qualcomm (News - Alert) Technologies, Inc. (QTI), a provider of wireless services and devices, stated that its QSC6270-Turbo chipset will hereon feature Oracle Java ME Embedded 3.2 support which is supposed to result in faster development and deployment of Machine-to-Machine (M2M) applications with embedded cellular connectivity.


According to Oracle (News - Alert), the Oracle Java ME Embedded enables software to be delivered via modules and in-market upgrades, allowing device manufacturers to extend the lifetime, flexibility, and value of embedded solutions. It enables M2M technology in small embedded devices and it features all the necessary tools to help users develop highly functional, reliable, portable, and secure solutions for small to large embedded devices.

Qualcomm explained that the QSC6270-Turbo chipset uses its own Gobi modem solution for 3G and it is designed to help drive the rapid adoption of high-speed mobile broadband around the world as the world’s first single-chip solution supporting HSDPA/WCDMA (UMTS) and GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks.

It is estimated that more than nine million developers use the Java platform. Now the support for Java available for the QSC6270-Turbo chipset is slated to deliver huge advantages to M2M software developers and systems integrators.

Kanwalinder Singh, senior vice president of business development at QTI commented, “QTI recognizes the important role that the application environment and its developer ecosystem will play in helping grow and realize the potential of the emerging M2M applications. Collaborating with Oracle to enable Java on the QSC6270-Turbo chipset provides participants in the M2M ecosystem with a broad set of powerful technologies to fulfill key M2M requirements. Qualcomm claimed that it is working on many fronts to enable the ‘Internet of Everything’ and pave the way for new types of connected products, business models and services. Oracle added that having a Java platform across a wide breadth of embedded devices unlocks many new possibilities in the M2M market for developers.
